Malaysia is a good food paradise...We are all born to eat...and eat to live.Eating
goodies at affordable prices and at odd hours... adds good flavour to food.
Taste the unique Malaysian flavour ...
1. Bak Kut Teh..
Literally, Bak Kut Teh means "Pork, Bones and Tea". Pork is cooked with chinese
herbs and dark soya bean sauce. Good for blood circulation and energy . Usually eaten with oil rice, yau
cha kuay, pig intestines and dried bean curd. The soup is either "thick" (heavy in soya sauce and herbs taste) or is
in light flavour.A good pot of thick chinese tea (esp Tork Shou Heong) will make the meal complete.(Yum Yum)
The secret of good quality bak kut teh is in the distinct taste of the soup and the tenderness of the
pork.Thats the quality bak kut teh. .Many bak kut teh stalls are selling over cooked pork.We can only taste the
soup but not the tenderness of the pork.
Truly a Malaysian invention...Originated from Port Klang circa early 1900's.The Hokkiens invented it for port coolies. It
gives them the energy.
There are plenty of bak kut teh stalls in the Klang Valley. I have seen
bak kut teh stalls in Singapore and Thailand too. I have been told that there are Bak Kut Teh tour trips by Hong Kongers and
Taiwanese...that shows how popular Bak Kut Teh is.
NOTICE:Not suitable to be eaten by people with high blood pressure or heart
problems...
My favourite bak kut teh stall .... WELL I LOVE THEM ALL.
my favourite part is the spare rib fei kuat (literraly..fat bones).
I normally eat in Klang and Sea Park (Fei Chai)..but there
are plenty of good stalls around. For eg Kepong & Jalan Imbi are
bak kut teh zones hahaha
Dark looking but tasty...
2. Nasi Lemak
A favourite local delicacy...Steamed coconut milk rice served with boiled egg, fried anchorvis, fried ground nuts and
curry / fried chicken. Mmmmmmmm luv it. The quality of nasi lemak stems from the rice boiling methods.I can't really
tell you that nasi lemak is a Malaysian invention as Indonesians have it too. Well..we are into eating good food not
food history hahaha. Cocunt milk is very popular in Malay cooking.
You can eat nasi lemak at road side stalls and hotels. Price ranges from 50 sen to RM20-00. You are
not truly a Malaysian if you have not eaten nasi lemak. Not suitable for those
who are on diet or have cholesterol problems..
When I was younger, I remember that the best nasi lemak outlet is Sakura at Jalan
Imbi Kuala Lumpur. They sell chinese style nasi lemak...However their standard has detoriated..as they are plenty of other
great nasi lemak outlets around in Malaysia. There is one road side nasi lemak stall in Leboh
Pasar bus stop (mornings only) Kuala Lumpur which sells excellent authentic malay style nasi lemak.served with delicious
curry sotong (squibs)...A good friend of mine told me that there is a very good Nasi Lemak stall in Templers
Park..and i trust him as he has good taste for food...but I have yet to taste...mmmm
3. Banana Leaf Rice
I am not talking about eating banana leaf here...refering
Serving steamed white rice on banana leaf..it creates a kind of speacial aroma in the rice.
